are looking for an energetic, assertive, and experienced person with a systematic approach for the role of Safety Manager at Reederei NORD B.V. in Amsterdam. You will have the exciting opportunity to have a big impact on the safety culture by leading the expansion and promotion of our policies related to Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality in a dynamic and multi-national working environment. It is a full-time position, you will report directly to the Managing Director, you will work in the office in Amsterdam and you will travel to ships a few weeks per year.

Key Responsibilities
You will have the exciting opportunity to:
- Improve all Integrated Management System policies, procedures, and processes;
- Improve the awareness, implementation, and enforcement of safety management systems;
- Plan, prepare, and execute HSEQ Training and Safety Campaigns for sea and office staff;
- Continue the improvement and implementation of the TMSA;
- Verify whether the Safety Management System (SMS) elements meet the requirements of the ISM Code and TMSA Guidelines;
- Monitor, implement, and enforce new rules and regulations, and ensure compliance.
- Follow-up on ISM/ISPS/ISO audit findings onboard ships;
- Follow-up on office audit findings related to Class DOC, ISO, and TMSA;
- Conduct familiarization to new or promoted vessel staff on the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS);
- Review and approve risk assessments;
- Review and investigate all reports of non-conformities and incidents. Ensure that corrective measures are applied to prevent reoccurrence;
- Ensure the quality and integrity of the incident investigation process;
- Prepare fleet circulars and alerts on important safety, navigational, environmental, regulatory, vetting, and Port State Control inspections.
Requirements
- You are an HSEQ specialist or a maritime industry professional with a passion for HSEQ and advanced studies in the field. Candidates with strong HSEQ expertise are encouraged to apply, even without direct experience in the maritime industry.
- You are a conceptual and incident thinker, your approach is systematic and methodical, and you are curious, diligent, assertive, proactive, and eager to learn. You are able to tell stories convincingly and thereby promote new ideas and have an impact;
- You have strong managerial skills, such as time management, problem-solving, and decision-making and you are pedantic;
- You have good communication skills and feel comfortable in a diverse and international environment;
- You stay on top of the developments around HSEQ-related international rules and regulations, and maritime industry practices;
- Excellent English proficiency;
- It is an advantage if you have experience with HSEQ at companies who have high HSEQ standards; seagoing experience in a senior position on tanker ships, and trained sea and shore staff.

You will participate in the bi-weekly management meetings in the office, work closely with and be supported by the 36 skilled colleagues in the office and the talented seafarers on board the 12 tanker and 2 bulker ships.
